Nationwide warns couples on Valentine's spending

Nationwide Building Society has warned couples to avoid charges when using their credit cards abroad over the Valentine's period.

According to research, one in ten people take their partners on a romantic break in and around February, with the building society suggesting that card customers may have spent £27 million on foreign loading charges in February last year.

The company also emphasised that it is one of the few financial firms to offer free plastic use to people heading abroad.

Jeremy Wood, division director at Nationwide said: "Couples who are planning to go abroad for a romantic getaway this Valentine's Day should be aware of the hidden charges that most card providers impose, which are both costly and unnecessary."

Nationwide's warning has come after life assistance company CPP also urged consumers to take care with their credit cards.

The firm stated that people need to contact their bank immediately when they believe they have lost their cards to avoid becoming victims of fraud.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18459924-ADNFCR
